Administration Emergency Backup Generator

This university’s local power company provided sometimes unreliable electrical service due to the extreme age of their equipment.  As such, the university desired backup power for the critical parts of the administration building operations. The building was built in 1945, partially into a rock hillside with little to no space or access for a backup power generator and the existing electrical distribution was not suitable for direct connection to a generator.  A one off custom installation was required to accommodate the university’s need.

We investigated the existing electrical distribution network and designed a custom approach to accommodate the new backup power source.  Able to provide a turn-key project with our “B” license, we cut a concrete pad and retaining wall into the hillside to house the 5,000lb generator, and installed it with a 250ft. crane extended over the building rooftop.

After years of lost data and broken operations, the administration building now has the ability to continue the majority of critical need operations during a power outage.  This was achieved despite others’ claim that such an installation was not feasible due to the facilities age and location.
